Munich's second-largest private brewery. Founded in 2006 as Giesinger Biermanufaktur und Spezialitäten Braugesellschaft mbH (Giesing Beer Manufactory and Specialty Brewing Company Ltd.), we set out in a small garage in Giesing to enrich the established beer market with diversity, a touch of madness, and a whole lot of passion. Actively supported by enthusiasts of Bavarian brewing culture, we have since grown into Munich's second-largest private brewery.

As a local and regional brewery, we focus on Munich's brewing traditions. The preservation of
Brewing craftsmanship and the brewing of traditional varieties are important to us, alongside the German Purity Law.

Märzen and various bock beers, plus seasonal specialty beers – a small but exquisite selection.

That's how we became who we are.

  • 2006

    START IN THE GARAGE: SILICON VALLEY SPIRIT MADE IN GIESING

    The story of Giesinger Bräu began in 2006 in Untergiesing, not far from the Holy Cross Church – in an empty double garage at Birkenau 5. There, founders Steffen Marx and brewmaster Tobias Weber set up their first brewing equipment and brewed their first batches in their “beer laboratory.” Initially, they created distinctive beers, including fruit and spice beers, with which the duo quickly made a name for themselves. With growing demand, classic styles like Kellerbier and wheat beer soon followed.

    FIRST BREWERY ESTABLISHED IN MUNICH IN DECADES

    The founding of Giesinger Biermanufaktur und Spezialitätenbraugesellschaft mbH (Giesing Beer Manufactory and Specialty Brewery Ltd.) was a milestone for the company, but also for Munich: it was the first brewery to be founded in the city in many decades. Meanwhile, Untergiesinger Erhellung (Untergiesinger Helles) established itself as the brewery's flagship beer and mainstay. In 2011, the magical 1,000 hectoliter mark was reached for the first time. This completely exhausted the brewing capacity and the available space.

    PIONEER WORK: THE FIRST CROWDFUNDING PROJECT

    Money was tight, so the fans had to help: Giesinger Bräu's first large-scale crowdfunding campaign to finance its new location on Martin-Luther-Straße in Giesing took place in 2011. These early efforts enabled the construction of the brewhouse and the taproom. Many more crowdfunding and investment rounds followed in the years to come. Giesinger Bräu is now considered a pioneer in the use of crowdfunding for brewery projects in Germany.

  • 2014

    MOVING TO MARTIN LUTHER STREET

    In 2012, Giesinger Bräu moved into the former electrical substation at Martin-Luther-Straße 2 in Munich-Giesing. The building was carefully converted into a brewhouse with its own pub and on-site shop. For the first time, the brewery became publicly visible and directly accessible to guests. From then on, beer was not only brewed but also served right where it was made. The new location quickly became a popular meeting place in the neighborhood and significantly shaped the identity of Giesinger Bräu.

  • 2017

    THE RETURN OF THE STANDING BAR

    In 2017, Giesinger Bräu revived a nearly lost Munich pub tradition, opening its first standing-room-only bar on its own premises. The result was a place for a quick half-liter (or five), a chat at the bar, and encounters with the local community – uncomplicated, open, and without any fuss. In 2019, the first standing-room-only bar in the city center followed, right in the heart of the Viktualienmarkt. Since then, more than half a dozen such bars have sprung up. The concept has been so successful that it has once again become a model for other breweries and restaurants.

    A SMALL REVOLUTION: YOUR OWN DEEP WELL

    The path to becoming an officially recognized "Munich Brewery" led deep beneath the gravel plain. An application for a dedicated deep well was submitted in November 2017, and its approval allowed Giesinger Bräu to take a crucial step in upholding the "Munich Beer" quality standard. With drilling commencing on September 12, 2019, and the well's commissioning at the end of the same year, Giesinger Bräu has since been drawing approximately 12,000-year-old Munich water from a depth of over 150 meters. This milestone enabled the young company to officially become Munich's seventh brewery.

  • 2020

    SECOND HOME: WERK2 IN LERCHENAU

    After approximately 18 months of construction, Giesinger Bräu opened its new, state-of-the-art production facility, "WERK2," in Munich-Lerchenau in June 2020. The total investment amounted to around €20 million, of which over €10 million went directly into the brewing and bottling plant. The facility serves as the central location for the production of the brewery's volume beers, primarily "Giesinger Erhellung" and "Münchner Hell," with a current annual production of approximately 50,000 hectoliters. The complex includes a brewhouse with ten storage tanks, a nearly fully automated bottling line, and a cutting-edge event venue. Fascinating brewery tours are offered several times a week, and the site is regularly used for brewery festivals and other large-scale events.

  • 2025

    PREMIERE: THE FIRST STRONG BEER FESTIVAL

    The year 2025 marked a successful entry into the world of large-scale events for Giesinger Bräu, with the premiere of its own strong beer festival and the "New Year's Eve Mile." A rustic, alpine-style festival tent was erected on the grounds of WERK2, accommodating around 1,000 visitors, where the handcrafted strong beer "Innovator" was served. With the successful strong beer festival, Giesinger Bräu demonstrated its ability to successfully master even larger challenges in the future – such as being the beer partner for the official New Year's Eve party in Munich, which attracted around 40,000 visitors.
